Promoting research designates the various conditions relative to investment in our individual and collective skills. This approach is implemented through many study contracts and expert services aiming at answering companies', local authorities', institutes' requests. The subjects related to Human and Social Sciences (and computing) proposed by the UPMF are all part of this skills offer. The teams, some of which are common to other institutes (CNRS, INRA, INRIA) and neighbouring universities (UJF, INPG, Université de Savoie) play a key role in terms of promotion, resulting in registrations of trademarks, licensing (methods, software...) and the creation of firms linked to laboratories. These are the result of the training action implemented at the same time in favour of entrepreneurship, supported and followed-up by the Isère company incubator Grenoble-Alpes-Incubation (GRAIN) that the UPMF has helped to create. Firms such as Tecknowmetrix, Themeris, Ad Valor, De Facto (with the INPG), Calypso were created this way.
The logistics of the UPMF commitment in terms of promotion is supported by a specialized team: the Service for industrial and business activities (SAIC) created end of 2003. This service, closely linked to Research, is an essential tool to implement the UPMF's promotion operations and to open up to its environment, and translates into various partnerships that the UPMF wants to develop (companies, local authorities, social, economic and cultural institutes).
This promotion action goes hand in hand with parallel dissemination initiatives of scientific and technical culture in non-profitable fields that are at the heart of the university's citizenship mission. It is the case for the organization of various public debates for young people and a larger audience, mostly pooled at the level of Grenoble University (Mardis de psycho, Tribune philosophique, Fête de la science...).
