Doctoral training
The UPMF doctoral training comprises 7 Doctoral Schools in Grenoble and Lyon.
Schools and doctoral colleges group together all study syllabuses and research that result in the drawing-up and defence of a doctorate thesis.
Studies in doctoral schools last three years and finish with a doctorate. They combine university education and research teams around a consistent scientific and pedagogical project to enrich training and reinforce the coaching of students, integrating for example the following aspects:
- Professional insertion and follow-up of PhD students' future.
- Diversification of the financing of thesis.
- Better connection between university and socio-economic partners.
- Joint thesis supervision and individual follow-up of PhD students.
- Post-Master classes, methodological seminaries, pooling of ongoing works, summer universities.
- International training, joint thesis supervision.
Doctoral schools and colleges also respect the Thesis Charter that defines mutual commitments between the PhD student and his/her dissertation advisor on the one hand, and the official structures on the other. This charter is complemented by the Doctorate Charter which individually details the framework and objectives when enroling (see site Doctoral College of Université de Grenoble)
On average, 70 theses per year are defended at the UPMF, in the field of human and social sciences.
